SMART Scholarship for Service Program
The SMART Scholarship for Service Program has been established by the Department of Defense (DoD) to support the education and recruitment of undergraduate and graduate students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. This program is used to recruit and to retain civilian scientists and engineers to work in DoD agencies and laboratories.
The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) assists the DoD in the development of the discipline-based review panels and maintains a database of appropriate professors, researchers and others in the fields supported by SMART. New members are welcomed every year to these panels charged with evaluating applications. The 2016 review panel will take place online in January 2016. Panelists read and evaluate applications in their areas of expertise. SMART seeks diverse panels composed of outstanding researchers from a wide range of institutions, geographic locations, and backgrounds.
- Outstanding research in a SMART-supported field
